Planteray Mauritius 2013 Rum

A single-origin Mauritian rum from Planteray's vintage series, distilled in 2013 and aged in two climates.

Molasses rum distilled in Mauritius in a column still, aged nine years in the tropical climate of Mauritius in 200 litre bourbon casks at Flic en Flac, then shipped to Javrezac in Cognac for a further two years in 350 litre Ferrand casks. Nineteen casks in all. The nose is fruity and sweet, caramel and vanilla behind lemon peel, passion fruit, banana and coconut, with nutmeg and tobacco underneath. The palate turns to dried fruit, guava and a floral note of rose, then it finishes on black tea, pepper and dry orange peel.

Complex enough to sip neat, with the weight to carry a Rum Old Fashioned or a richer Daiquiri.
