The Merlet family distillery was founded in 1850 in the Saintonge region of France. The family came from a line of wine growers and started out distilling cognac for major houses such as Hennessy. When the cognac market struggled in the 1970s, Gilles Merlet replanted the vineyards with blackcurrant bushes and began making crème de cassis. It sold well, and the distillery has since become known for its macerated fruit liqueurs.

Sœurs Cerises was released in autumn 2015. It is made from several varieties of cherry, mostly Morello. The fruit is macerated in neutral alcohol, then blended with a cherry eau-de-vie and some of Merlet's own Brothers Blend Cognac.

A rich cherry liqueur, balanced by tannin and acidity, with notes of cognac and almond.
