Coterie by Wildeberg Cinsault Rose
Beyond the town of Franschhoek, on the very edge of the south-eastern corner of the Cape’s Coastal Region, a farm named Wildeberg traverses a wild slice of untamed mountain. It’s here that a happy band of idealists craned their necks up at this hillside and decided to plant vines. People thought they were mad, but they’ve gone on to produce some of the most exciting wines in South Africa.
This wine is 100% Cinsault from a 30 year old bush-vine vineyard in Paarl. The grapes were harvested at peak ripeness to preserve the rosé’s natural acidity, picked early in the cool morning and transported to Wildeberg. Only the juice from a single gentle press was used, which was then gently squeezed into aged French oak demi-muids for natural fermentation. The delicate colour results solely from this light pressing, with no extended skin contact.
Taste guide: a delicate and lightly savoury Rosé with dry mineral notes and a delicate creamy veil.
