Franco Conterno Barolo Pietrin 2021
This wine, made by esteemed Barolo winemakers, the Conterno family, is rich, tannic, full bodied and powerful with a long finish. An absolute classic Barolo in every way, it is ready to drink now, but will keep on improving in the bottle if you can bear to leave it lying down for another decade.
Four generations of the Conterno family have poured their hearts and souls into producing some of the best Barolo wines with an emphasis on sustainability. Certified organic since 2015, the grapes for this wine are grown in three different areas -Monforte d’Alba, Novello and Castiglione Falletto.
The wine has undergone 24 months of aging in enormous, 2000 litre Slavonian oak barrels, then a further 12 months in the bottle before release.
Taste guide: this Barolo opens with classic aromas of tea and roses intermingled with sweet spice and dried cherries. On the palate it delivers further tart and sour cherry complemented by hints of hazelnut, truffle and, of course, forest floor.
