Stone's Original Green Ginger Wine
Stones is said to have a recipe that dates back to 1740, while the brand itself dates back to the mid-nineteenth century. The wine was originally sold by Joseph Stone, a London grocer who asked the Finsbury Distilling Company to produce a ginger wine bearing his name.
The Stone brand incorporates the emblem of the City of London into its label, perhaps to elevate its image, or potentially due to the owner's familial connection to the city's mayor, the Lord Mayor of London, who was his brother-in-law.
Stone's ginger wine is made from a blend of gingered and ungingered raisin bases.
