A single-block Pinotage from Spice Route, off bush vines planted in 1997 on iron-rich Koffieklip soils at Malmesbury in the Swartland. Fermented in open concrete with manual punch-downs, then aged in tight-grain American oak with a little matured in underground clay pots for texture.
Deep and bold, showing blackcurrant and ripe cherry over dark spice, cedar and a hint of smoky oak, with velvety tannins and a smooth finish.
Pairs beautifully with barbecued meats, venison or a mature cheddar.
