Domaine Papagiannakos Savatiano Old Vines, PGI Markopoulo
Domaine Papagiannakos was founded in 1919 in Attica, around 30km from Athens, and is a leading producer of Savatiano, the region's indigenous white grape. This bottling comes from seven parcels of 50-year-old, low-yielding, dry-farmed vines in Markopoulo, grown on limestone soil across gentle north-facing slopes at roughly 100m. The grapes are hand-picked in mid-September, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel at 17°C for around three weeks.
A savoury, herb-tinged nose with delicate floral notes leads into ripe peach fruit, with a rounded, textural mouthfeel and a crisp, citrus-driven finish lifted by a light salinity.
Pair with pork chops and lemon-roasted potatoes.
