Beyond the town of Franschhoek, on the very edge of the south-eastern corner of the Cape’s Coastal Region, a farm named Wildeberg traverses a wild slice of untamed mountain. It’s here that a happy band of idealists craned their necks up at this hillside and decided to plant vines. People thought they were mad, but they’ve gone on to produce some of the most exciting wines in South Africa.

This wine is a blend of 65% Chenin from a 40 year old Franschhoek vineyard and 35% Grenache Blanc from Paarl, both fermented using the wild yeasts naturally occurring in the winery, and aged for 6 months in 600 litre oak barrels. The Chenin Blanc brings freshness while the Grenache Blanc adds body and structure to create a ripe, succulent, textural wine.

Taste guide: a pale and subtle character with a refined savoury edge. Mature oak nuances gently envelop this dry, mineral-driven wine in a soft, creamy texture, culminating in a crisp, well-defined, and elegant finish.
