Champagne Gremillet Brut Sélection Ambassadeur NV
The flagship cuvée of Champagne Gremillet, a family house at Balnot-sur-Laignes in the Aube, close to Les Riceys. Its early exports went mainly to embassies and consulates.
The family have grown grapes since the 18th century. Jean-Michel Gremillet founded the house in 1979, and his children Anne and Jean-Christophe run it today. The blend is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, from the first pressings only. It brings together four or five vintages, including 20% reserve wine, and spends at least 22 months on its lees.
Pale gold with a fine, persistent mousse. Floral notes, acacia and brioche lead to peach, pear and apricot, baked biscuit and a crisp, citrus finish. Lovely chilled as an aperitif, with light nibbles, salads or simple fish dishes.
