Spice Route Swartland Pinotage is a South African red made from 100% Pinotage, sourced from a single block of bush-vine vineyard on the Klein Amoskuil farm in Malmesbury in the Swartland region. The vines, planted in 1997 on Koffieklip soils (iron-rich decomposed granite from the Paardeberg Mountain), produce wines known for their depth of fruit and firm structure.

In the cellar, the grapes are fermented in open concrete fermenters with manual punch-downs to extract colour and flavour. After pressing, the wine is transferred to tight-grain American oak barrels (around 30% new oak) for malolactic fermentation and maturation, with a small portion also matured in underground clay pots to add texture and complexity.

Deep ruby in colour, there are aromas of blackcurrant and ripe cherry with notes of dark spice, cedar and a hint of smoky oak. The palate delivers rich dark fruit flavours supported by bright acidity and velvety tannins, creating a bold yet balanced Pinotage with a smooth finish.
