San Felice Pugnitello, Toscana IGT
A stand-out Super Tuscan from the Chianti Classico region made with 100% Pugnitello grapes from the 8-hectare San Felice estate. The name of this ancient indigenous grape variety means “little fist” and the grapes are grown on the predominantly calcareous marl soil with abundant gravel-pebbles, using a Guyot and spur-pruned cordon trellis systems. After fermentation, at 28-30°C, the wine is racked and the grapes pressed. The wine is then moved to 225-litre French oak barriques for 18-20 months ageing, followed by 8 months in the bottle.
Aromas of black fruit, smoke and spices. Flavours of bitter cherry, mocha with smoky notes and spicy oak.
Pair with spicy stews, rich beef or lamb dishes.
