A renowned wine from the single south-southwest-facing, 11.93-hectare Martinenga amphitheatre-shaped vineyard, owned by Marchesi di Grésy since 1797, this is one of Barbaresco's most prized vineyard sites.
The 100% Nebbiolo grapes are hand-harvested in early October, with vinification on skins for an 8-10 day fermentation with floating cap, followed by 20-30 days of maceration with submerged cap and daily pumping over. Malolactic fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature following alcoholic fermentation. The wine is aged in 225-litre French oak barriques for 12 months, then in 50 hl Slavonian oak casks for a further 12 months, and bottle ageing before release.
