Crozes Hermitage La Certitude Domaine Francois Villard

François Villard is one of the northern Rhône’s most respected producers. A former chef who turned to winemaking in the late 1980s, Villard has built a reputation for expressive wines that balance ripe fruit with freshness and precision. His Crozes-Hermitage wines showcase the classic character of Syrah from the northern Rhône, combining depth with approachability.

La Certitude comes from several vineyard parcels across Crozes-Hermitage, including sites around Chanos-Curson, Beaumont-Monteux and Mercurol. The soils here are a mix of clay, sand and Rhône river stones, which help Syrah ripen fully while preserving structure and freshness. The wine is aged in oak barrels for around a year, adding texture and complexity while allowing the fruit to remain at the forefront.

Expect aromas of blackberry, black cherry and violet, layered with hints of cracked pepper, liquorice and gentle spice. The palate is smooth and generous, with supple tannins, dark fruit and a savoury edge typical of northern Rhône Syrah. A versatile red that pairs well with lamb, game and hearty seasonal dishes.
