Cicada Blanc by Chante Cigale
This wine may be classified as a Vin de France, but don’t dismiss it out of hand, because it’s made by Alexandre Favier, of Domaine Chante Cigale, one of the hot, new-wave producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, so you are getting generations of winemaking expertise in your “Wednesday Wine” bottle!
An unusual blend of 30% Viognier, 30% Picpoul Blanc and 40% Grenache Blanc, this wine has a nice weight on the palate and a ripe, rounded, but fresh finish.
The domaine’s name - Chante Cigale – comes from the famed ‘singing cicadas’ which dominate the soundscape along the Rhône valley.
Taste guide: lovely aromatics on the nose with notes of citrus, pear and tropical fruit on the palate.
