Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles is a small, organically certified estate in Bandol, widely regarded as one of the appellation's finest producers. The vineyards are managed by Jean-Marie Castell, whose family has long been associated with the domaine, and all vineyard work is carried out by hand using organic methods. The rosé is an unusual blend for Provence  - 70% Mourvèdre with Grenache and Cinsault -  made using a combination of saignée from the Mourvèdre and pressed juice from the other varieties, fermented at controlled temperatures for three weeks and then kept in tank for six months before bottling in the spring.

The result is a rosé with more depth and character than most. Pale salmon in colour, it opens with an herbal nose and delicate sweet peach and red fruits. Warm southern herbs, white pepper spice and soft raspberries follow on the palate. It's complex and interesting, and a wine that rewards taking your time over it. Excellent as an aperitif with olives and tapenade, or alongside shellfish, grilled chicken or spiced vegetable dishes.
