A deep, velvety blackcurrant liqueur from the Merlet family in the Saintonge, made from prized Noir de Bourgogne berries. The colour runs almost opaque maroon, the nose thick with ripe blackcurrant and jam.
Distillerie Merlet & Fils built its name on macerated fruit liqueurs, and its cassis is a benchmark: the fruit steeped in spirit, then sweetened into a rich, mouth-enveloping crème that holds onto its fresh acidity, with subtle mint and black-tea undertones and a long, fruity finish.
The classic partner for a Kir or Kir Royale, and just as good poured over ice, lengthened with soda, or stirred into cocktails.
